ARTIST STATEMENT

Since opening the gallery in 1991, surrounded by so much creativity, I’ve become an accidental artist. You can’t help but get inspired when you soak in so much beauty and creativity of the art around you.

It began one day when a client asked me to paint her cat. I suggested several of the accomplished artists I represented who painted animals, but she insisted, “No, I want you to paint my cat.” So I did, and that’s how it started.

I still consider myself a beginner, but my clients seem to like what I do. (I frequently get repeat orders.) So I keep painting one love at a time.

When I paint an animal, I try to get a feeling for who they are—the expression in their eyes and the little things that make them so loved by their people. I love animals, and I hope some of that comes through in my paintings. When it does, I feel like I’ve succeeded.

And if Finnegan barks, then that’s the cherry on top.
