JON FRANCIS

BIO

Jon Francis grew up in Laguna Beach, California, an early art colony known for its Plein Air painters. He started showing promise early, winning art awards at the Orange County Fair while still in high school. Jon went on to study Advertising Design at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.

After college, he spent ten years in New York working in advertising and art direction on national campaigns. He later returned to California, working in San Francisco before starting Bass/Francis Productions. In 1982, Jon and his wife, Sandra, founded Jon Francis Films, where they produced and directed more than 1,500 television commercials.

Over the past 16 years, Jon has focused his creative energy on painting, exploring the California landscape, urban scenes, and figurative work. When he’s not painting, he can usually be found playing bass—performing jazz standards in a duo or playing straight-ahead jazz weekly with a quintet.
